In the consulting industry, the client is always right, but that doesn't
keep me from suggesting ideas a client may not always like or approve.
By throwing out novel ideas or different approaches I ensure that I have
a sound understanding of my client's business and that I give my clients
the full benefit of my experiences.
Example:
While redesigning a web site, I suggested a different categorization structure
for the content. My client explained that my proposed structure was not
how they saw their business and she pulled out a promotional piece describing
their business. Once I read the piece, I immediately realized that we
had something in our possession that could help us determine how to structure
the site. With this document in hand, we completed the redesign in at
least half the time it would have required had we started from scratch.
